BUILDING PRODUCTS - NORTHEAST FOR THE WEEK OF 4-1-08
GYPSUM - All vendors have announced an increase
for April 7th. You should plan for future purchases now.
GUARDIAN FIBERGLASS - One of the only products
in the industry to not experience a price increase due to price
increases in fuel and products used in manufacturing. Now is a
very good time to buy.
ROOFING - Lead times, rising fuel costs, and
manufacturing issues have led to a price increase that is to be
implemented in April. Check around for the most competitive
prices.
FOREST PRODUCTS
OSB (NORTHEAST) - A current flat week with a
flat week for pricing ahead as well. Board is available, with
the longest order file out to 4-14 from Eastern Canada.
SYP PLYWOOD - Pine plywood markets sold fairly
well last week. With a lack of import wood, some domestic mill
closings and some rotating mill curtailments, supply and demand
has become more balanced. With spring coming, the market should
continue in a positive direction.
SYP LUMBER - Another week of uneventful
SYP trading. Prices did raise a bit though due to a couple mill
curtailment announcements.
WESTERN SPF - Studs continue to be a firm item
as the higher quality stock is being used to replace the Euro
SPF that has disappeared. The same thing has happened in
dimensions with the demand of a higher quality product and
disappearance of Euro SPF. With demand the way it is, mills have
been successful with slowly raising prices and it looks like
this trend will continue over the next couple weeks.
EASTERN SPF - With the temperatures rising, so
will the prices. Take a look at what you need regarding studs
and higher grade lumber and buy now.
WESTERN US LUMBER - With production cutbacks
and light inventories finally catching up to the market, prices
are on the increase. Narrows may struggle to compete, but wides
should see an increase in value.
WESTERN PLYWOOD - Some of the activity in pine
plywood did carry over to the fir plywood market. Most of the
activity was on the thicker panels, 5/8 & 3/4, and underlayment.
Prices went up $5-$10 on most items with order files out to
4/7-4/14.
